Le lezioni del Maestro Gorlini 9 / The lessons of Master Gorlini 9

After some indecision, I decided to publish this series of sketches made during the lessons of Gorlini. At the beginning of each lesson we are required to make a sketch using the "water soluble graphite". After having drawn the subject, including the shadows, we use the brush with water to melt the graphite, creating the proper watercolor. The time available varies from 10 to 15 minutes, no more!

    Gros bisous

  4. This is a really good exercise for warming up before you start painting, plus with the time limit it focuses you to the most important aspects...and these are very good - you show the lights and darks very well. The tonal values that are so important especially in a finished piece. Very nice work Tito, I have enjoyed seeing them, and so glad you decided to publish them.

  7. Well I am SO glad you published your sketches! It is a brave thing for us to do but I really think it shows the essence of the way our minds work in the process of making art. And I imagine you did these from life in your class? Mine were from photo's which is much less of a challenge! Your sketches are wonderful! Lively, full of character and I am in awe! I really hope you post some more of your sketches in the future, they are wonderful to see :0)

  11. Those are wonderful. The monochromatic sketches often give more feeling, and certain require more understanding of light values. I did not know one could do this with graphite, I must try it. Your results are amazing! Thank you for sharing them. Grazie, multi grazie.

  14. Sketch two immediately catches my interest having just devoted myself to portraiture. In a short time you captured a lot of this man's personality. Excellent rendering of the eyes and gnarled, clasped hands.
